Albany, NY, July 18th, 2013 – Urban RAID, the city based leg of the RAID Series, will take over downtown Albany, NY on October 19th 2013 for a one of a kind 5K obstacle race.
The spectacular downtown course will take racers past some of Albany’s most iconic landmarks including Empire State Plaza, the Capital Building, the Governor’s Mansion and more.
By the time they reach the finish line, racers will have completed more than ten custom built obstacles constructed along the course, including one directly inside the Times Union Center.
Event organizers, Aura360 Ventures, have been working closely with Albany city officials to create a course route that showcases the best of the Capitol while having minimal impact on both traffic and pedestrians. Post Race the Urban RAID After Party will kick into high gear with music, refreshments and sampling from event sponsors.
“Albany is thrilled to be one of the first cities in the Northeast to bring the Urban Raid 5K to our streets,” said Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings. “This one of a kind obstacle course will be staged throughout our city streets and will be as exciting to watch as it is to participate. The Urban Raid is a great event that will inspire our citizens to lead an active, healthy life and to have FUN while doing it.”
Albany will be the 5th stop of the 2013 RAID Series with Urban RAID touching down in Portland and Boston earlier in the year. Founded in 2011, The RAID Series offers participants unprecedented access to unique Urban, Beach and Mountain environments. Catering to cross training athletes, fitness enthusiasts and recreational runners, the RAID Series has focused on the racer experience and athletic performance, resulting in a groundswell of excitement in the racing community.
Charity partners of the RAID Series are Camp Sunshine and the Family Reach Foundation. Camp Sunshine provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families throughout various stages of a child’s illness. The Family Reach Foundation provides financial relief and heartfelt support to families fighting cancer.
